Zakynthos is a place with a rich history and culture that has been preserved for centuries.
Especially during the summer months, a multitude of cultural and religious events keep history alive.
Many traditional festivals take place throughout the summer in almost every village across the island. It is certain that summer visitors will have the opportunity to attend at least one of them during their stay.
Here are some key dates worth planning your visit around, so you can enjoy these special happenings:
Giostra di Zante
The Giostra di Zante event is a historical reenactment of medieval jousting tournaments that used to take place during the Venetian rule in Zakynthos.
Participants, dressed in authentic period costumes, take part in a series of spectacular activities, including knightly competitions, parades with flags and music, and theatrical performances that transport the audience back in time.
This tradition was revived by a group of passionate locals who love their island. It is usually held during the weekend of the Holy Spirit, which is a movable feast.
For 2025, the Giostra will take place on June 6, 7, and 8.

Saint Paraskevi Festival in Agios Leon
One of the oldest and most traditional festivals in Zakynthos. The residents of Agios Leon, known for their talents in music, singing, and dancing, organize a unique two-day celebration every year on the last weekend of July in the square of the Church of Saint Paraskevi.
The festivities last until dawn… for those who can keep up! Traditional songs and dances frame the celebration, and visitors are always welcome, with locals eager to introduce them to the “Syrtos Levantinikos” dance.
It is worth noting that the program also includes European dances (waltz, tango, fox anglaise) as was customary during the period of British rule.
Terra Lucis Mountain Residences is one of the ideal accommodations for guests who want to experience this festival, as it is located near the village of Agios Leon.
For 2025, the Saint Paraskevi Festival will take place on July 26 and 27.
